An FQHC is a Federally Qualified Health Center, which is a type of community-based organization that provides comprehensive primary and preventative care to underserved communities. FQHCs are an important part of the U.S. health care system because they provide affordable, accessible care to individuals and families, regardless of their ability to pay. An FQHC offers a Sliding Fee Scale tiered billing where qualified patients pay only a small percentage of the full price for services; the remainder of the fee is subsidized by the government which makes up the remainder of the full cost of healthcare.
